
The Reverend Jeffrey Thornberg was raised (mostly) in New Hampshire but attended high schools in Ohio and Texas. Jeff earned his bachelor’s degree in biology with high honors from the University of Texas in 2005 and his Master of Divinity degree from The General Theological Seminary in 2008. Jeff was ordained a deacon and then a priest by Bishop Gene Robinson in 2008, also a graduate of GTS.
Jeff has served as associate rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Portsmouth, New Hampshire (2008–2012), senior associate of St. Paul’s Indianapolis (2012-2015), rector of Holy Trinity, Fayetteville, North Carolina (2015–2019), and now rector of Church of Our Saviour in San Gabriel California. Jeff has a passion for congregational development and has completed the coursework (but not thesis) for his Doctor of Ministry in Congregational Development at Bexley-Seabury Theological Seminary in Chicago.
The Church of Our Saviour in San Gabriel is a multicultural, bilingual congregation. It is the oldest continuously running congregation in the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles. In addition to offering English and Mandarin speaking worship and community, The Church of Our Saviour operates a multimillion dollar after school program and food pantry in the city of El Monte and runs 4 homes in Pasadena with men and women in recovery from addiction.
Jeff currently serves as a director of the Corporation of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles and was a member of the Search Committee. Jeff is also an instructor for Bloy House, the diocese’ local seminary, and is a member of its Requiem or Renaissance program funded by Trinity Wall Street. Jeff is also an active part of the Chinese Ministry Advisory Committee for the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles.
Jeff is married to the Rev. Anne Thornberg (also an Episcopal priest). Anne and Jeff are the joyful parents of four children, Eleanor, Harriet, Frances, and Charles. Jeff is a lifelong ice hockey player and Boston Bruins fan.
